Seven oil paintings became the stage for a twenty-minute opera in augmented reality.
Seven paintings. One world between them.
Dennis Rudolph’s Messengers occupied a former swimming pool: seven large-scale oil paintings, each carrying its own figure, gesture and mythology.
We helped Dennis build the layer that began where the canvas ended.
The seven Messengers in the physical exhibition
The painting becomes a portal.
Seen through HoloLens, brushstrokes protrude from the canvas. Sculptures drawn in VR enter the room. The seven messengers awaken, move between the paintings and perform an apocalyptic choreography of collapse and rebirth.
The audience no longer stands in front of the work. It becomes immersed in it.

The opera exists in the overlap: the physical exhibition, the painted figures and a virtual performance occupying the same space.
HoloLens keeps visitors present in the room while opening another dimension inside it. Ryan Polisky’s immersive soundtrack binds both worlds into one scene.
Precision, made invisible.
Virtual forms had to meet real paintings within centimetres—or the illusion would collapse.
We developed a custom HoloLens application, spatial anchors for every painting and a calibration tool that allowed the installation to be rebuilt in different layouts. Shared anchor data also made a spectator view possible.
